Attn: Docketing

&. Service Branch Gen ~lemen:

P This letter is in reference to the storage of spent nuclear fuel at the Susquehanna Steam and Electric Station at the Bell Bend. site.

This is my formal objection to such an arranger ent.

On the 20th of September I wrote a letter con-cerning this subject v,o Kr.

'imam.

H. Regan Jr., chief of environmental projects.

In respense to tnis letter, I received.

a tele>hone call from a ~ir. (Singhay) of the office. At what time he assured me that the spent fuel woulcL be stored at the site only until it would, be safe to ship it xo a storage site.

This he saicL would be a maximum of six months During this conver-sation I was informed. that a team from the iHRC would be. in this area to inspect the plant site on the 17th and 18th of October and they would stop by our nome and di.scuss tnese issues with me.

On the 11th of October a very small article appeared in our local paper concerning the storage of the spent fuel at tne Bell Bend site.

This article couldn't have been any sm"lier. In fact it contained three sentences.

To say t; e least it went unnoticed by the majority of the area residents.

Up to ~his point tne government has done nothing to protect the resiaents of tr is area.

Pie nave received dam"ge to our properties during

.'owever, when the tear made their visit to our home, I questioned iver. Singhay (who was accompanied by two otner persons) and he informed, me that tne spent fuel would indeed be stored at the plant site for 10 years.

He didn't say it was pending any certification. It was a de-finite statement that the fuel would indeed be stored there for the 10 year periode It seems that this like ail the other things -.that 2=8cZ: h"s decided to do in this

Now tne final destruction of this area by the storage of this spent fuel.

iso other area in the U.S.

wants this spent fuel stored in their area and I am sure the apparent apathy of the people in tnis area gave assurance there would be no objection to this plan.

This subject was brought to the amtention of tee area supervisors at their meeting last evening.

They were completely ignorant of the proposed plan.

I think it is about xime the people in tr.is area are informed as to what is to take place.

'Ve live here and we are definitely effected by this decision..~t'he present time there are over 3GO sites in the U.S.

where toxic chemicals and other dangerous materials nave been stored.

These sites have begun to make their presence known to the people who live there. I a'mnot in favor,of our area being added to tnat list.

I would like a definite atatement on this issue.

Just what is going to be done with the spent fuel2 Y'here willit be stored?

Very truly yours, I

~
