Dear Dr. Butler:
)~
yVp In conjunction with our policy of keeping you informed of the pro'gress of construction of our Susquehanna Steam Electric Station Project, we previously reported. to you (our letter No. PLA-44), that during the excavation and clean-up of the rock foundation beneath our Reactor and Turbine Buildings, we uncovered.
an old. bedding plane showing prominent slickensides.
Our report contained a
complete response to your questions including an analysis of the age relationships of the materials encountered along the planes.
More recently, in August, 1975, we have observed.
a similar slickensided. bedding plane along the vertical face of our circulating water pumphouse excavation and approximately 500 feet west of our Reactor Building.
We have performed an analysis of this bedding plane and, have concluded. that it is a continuation of the previous+ reported. old, slickensided.,
cemented bedding plane.
The'onclusions in our previous report also apply to this recently observed bedding plane.
The analysis of these geologic features indicates that no problem exists, consequently we plan to begin backfilling operations in the circulating water pumphouse area in about three weeks.
Observation of this bedding plane along the excavated rock slopes was discussed in a telephone conversation between our Messrs.
W. L. Bohner',
R.
W. McNamara and C. T. Coddingt'on and, your Mr. J.
M. Cutchin on October 24, 1975.
If you have any questions on this matter, please contact us for additional information.
Very truly yours,
'Tt,t 0 N.
