Dear Mr. Grier:
In response to the Infraction and the Deviation as presented in the subject audit report, we offer the following:
- l. As of April 7, 1978, we have made weekly inspections of the dust control, trash removal, settling basins, and sewage treatment facility and monthly inspections of our soil erosion and sediment control program. The corresponding checklists have been generated (see attachment). In addition, one of our field engineers has been assigned the responsibility of ensuring that the required inspections are made and that the checklists are documented. Full compliance to this requirement is currently in effect.
- 2. Regarding the pumping of water onto the hillside, we directed the contractor to cease this operation immediately and to ensure that all future site runoff was routed through the sedimentation basins.
The excessive sediment has been removed from all the erosion control basins thus restoring proper residence time of the runoff water.
In addition, flow diverters have been installed in each of the river intake basins in order to direct the incoming, flow away from the discharge. In the future, the basins will be cleaned as required to ensure proper residence time of the water.
