UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON , D.C. 20555-0001 OFFICE OF THE January 4, 2018 SECRETARY Mr. Rod McCullum , Senior Director Used Fuel and Decommissioning Nuclear Energy Institute 1201 F Street, NW, Suite 1100 Washington , DC 20004

Dear Mr. McCullum :

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received your January 2, 2017, letter concerning Licensing Support Network Advisory Review Panel (LSNARP) activities. In your letter, you noted the recent request of the State of Nevada for postponement of the scheduled January 30-31 , 2018, LSNARP meeting to provide additional time for consideration of the December 2017 paper providing potential options for Licensing Support Network reconstitution/replacement and indicated that the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) strongly recommends deferral of the meeting for thirty to forty-five days.

In light of the request by NEI and Nevada for additional time to assess the information in the December 2017 paper along with other potential alternatives, we have decided to reschedule the LSNARP meeting for February 27-28, 2018. The location and meeting times will remain the same. A Federal Register notice regarding this date change will be published within the next week.

Additionally, to aid in the discussion of options at the meeting, we request that any member wishing to propose for LSNARP consideration an option that has a significantly different technical basis from those discussed in the options paper provide to the LSNARP Chairman, the Acting LSN Administrator, and the other LSNARP members by February 13, 2018, (1) information describing that option , including, if practicable, any estimates regarding implementation time and costs; and (2) an indication as to whether the member wants to make a presentation at the meeting regarding that option and how much time would be needed for that presentation. Additionally, by that same date LSNARP members are invited to provide to the LSNARP Chairman, the Acting LSN Administrator, and the other LSNARP members written comments regarding any options set forth in the December 2017 options paper. While LSNARP members will have the opportunity to submit written comments following the meeting, having comments in hand prior to the meeting will enable a more robust and collaborative discussion.

Finally, given the change in the LSNARP meeting date, if there are any changes in the attendance information you provided in your January 2, 2018, letter, please let us know on or before January 19, 2018.

As an LSNARP member representative , we will continue to be in contact with you should there be any additional information regarding the February 2018 LSNARP meeting or any other LSNARP matters.

Sincerely, d:::~L~-~

LSNARP Chairman
