Very Thickly 3-10 Feet Saprolite)

Highly Weathered (More than half the Can be peeled by knife with difficulty, rock material decomposed to soil, rock Weak indentions show with fmn blow with hammer.

Moderately Weathered (Less than half Medium Cannot be scraped or peeled with knife, can be the rock material decomposed to soil, rock Moderately 0.3-1.0 Feet present as a continuous framework)

Strong fractured with single firm, blow with hannner.

Slightly Weathered (Discoloration Sample requires more than one blow of hammer inwards from fractures, all rock material Strong to fracture it.

Thinly 0.1-0.3 Feet may be discolored)

Fresh (No sign of weathering, slight Sample requires many blows of hammer to discoloration on major discontinuity Very Strong fracture it.

Very Thinly 0.03-0.1 Feet surfaces)

Extremely Sample can only be chipped with hammer blows.

Core Terms-Abbreviations EXPLANATION DRILL RATE Time in minutes it takes to core one foot, for each foot or partial foot of a core n.m. ( 1 :32; 0:54/0.7 ft)

CORE RUN; RUN LENGTH Cored lnterval; Total distance of core n.m measured to nearest 0.1 ft. Core runs are not to exceed 5 feet.

CORE RECOVERY (REC.)

Total length of recovered core, divided by the core n.m length, and expressed as a percentage.

CLINCH RIVER SMR PROJECT TABLE 8.1.1-Boring Legend AMEC No. 6468-13-1072 DISCONTINUITY DESCRIPTION TYPE DESCRIPTION JOINT (J)

Relatively planar fracture along which there has been little or no shearing displacement.

BEDDING JOINT (BJ)

Relatively planar fracture which is parallel to bedding along which there has been little or no shearing displacement.

SHEAR(SH)

Structural break where differential movement has taken place along a surface or zone of failure by shear; characterized by striations, slickensides, gouge, breccia, or any combination of these.

Shear that is expressed in relative terms of width. The zone may consist of gouge, breccia, or many SHEAR/FRACTURE ZONE (SZ/FZ) related faults or shears together with fractured and crushed rock between the shears and faults, or any combination of these.

ANGLE Measure and indicate on the log the approximate angle of the discontinuity measured in degrees from the horizontal.

SEEPAGE I

The discontinuity is vety tight and dry, water flow along it does not appear possible.

II The discontinuity is dry with no evidence of water flow.

m The discontinuity is dry but shows evidence of water flow, i.e iron oxide staining.

IV The discontinuity is damp but no free water present.

v The discontinuity shows seepage, occasional drops of water.
