SUBJECT:
CLOSEOUT OF GENERIC LETTER 97-06, "DEGRADATIONOF STEAM GENERATOR INTERNALS"- TURKEY POINT PLANT, UNITS 3 AND 4 (TAC NOS. MA0955 AND MA0956)
Dear Mr. Plunkett:
On December 31, 1997, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff issued Generic Letter (GL) 97-06, "Degradation of Steam Generator Internal." The purpose of the GL was to obtain information that would enable the staff to verify that the condition of licensees'team generator internals comply with and conform to the current licensing bases for their respective facilities.
By letter dated March 26, 1998, you responded to GL 97-06. The staff's review of your response did not identify any new concerns with the condition of the steam generator internal.
In addition, the staff did not identify any concerns with the inspection practices employed at Turkey Point Plant to detect degradation of steam generator internals.
Therefore, the staff concludes that your response to the GL provides reasonable assurance that the condition of the steam generator internals at Turkey Point Plant, Units 3 and 4, are in compliance with the current licensing bases for the facility.
The detailed technical basis that supports the staff's determination for all facilities willbe published in a NUREG report. The expected publication date is December 1999. This completes the staffs effort on TAC Nos. MA0955 and MA0956.
