SUBJECT:

EVALUATIONOF FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHTCOMPANY RESPONSE TO NRC GENERIC LETTER 97-05 FOR TURKEY POINT PLANT, UNITS 3 AND 4 (TAC NOS. MA0504 AND MA0505)

Dear Mr. Plunkett:

By letter dated March 11, 1998, Florida Power and Light Company submitted a response to NRC Generic Letter (GL) 97-05, "Steam Generator Tube Inspection Techniques."

The focus of the GL was to verify that the licensees'team generator tube inspection practices were consistent with the existing regulatory requirements and the plant licensing bases.

Your response included a description and the technical basis of all the inspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at Turkey Point Units 3 and 4. The staff's review of this response did not identify any concerns with the steam generator tube inspection techniques employed at Turkey Point that would indicate that the facility is not in compliance with its current licensing basis.

This completes our action regarding the above TACs. Ifyou have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at (301) 415-1496.

Sincerely,

/s/
