By letter dated February 5,
- 1987, we provided guidance concerning the proper implementation of regulatory positions specified in Regulatory Guide 1.84, "Design and Fabrication Code Case Acceptability ASHE Section III, Division 1,n Revision 24, dated June
- 1986, concerning the use of the subject Code Case.
In addition to the guidance, we requested submittal of the details relating to the use of Code Case N-411 in relation to this guidance prior to the use of this Code Case at your Turkey Point or St.
Lucie Plants.
In a telephone call between George Hadden of your St. Lucie staff and Len Wiens of my staff, we were informed that the provisions of this Code Case had not yet been implemented, but that the St.
Lucie Plant was considering implementation in the future.
Hr. Hadden asked whether the NRC still desired details of the planned use of the Code Case to be submitted.
The conditions specified in the Regulatory Guide (RG) should be met prior to implementation of Code Case N-411, as well as the guidance provided in the February 5,
1987 letter.
However, since RG 1.84 allows use of this Code Case without prior NRC approval, you no longer need to provide details relating to the use of the Code Case to the staff.
