APPROVAL OF REDUCED SCOPE INSPECTION EFFORT IN LIEU OF THE SERVICE WATER OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE INSPECTION AT TURKEY POINT We have reviewed your request for reduced NRC inspection effort in the subject area.
We find that your proposed self-assessment should satisfy the requirements of the service water operational performance inspection.
In the interest of minimizing regulatory impact. and using NRC resources more effectively, the Agency has implemented a pilot program to permit licensees to conduct a self-assessment in lieu of an NRC area-of-emphasis inspection provided that certain criteria have been met.
Based on your proposed self-assessment of the Intake Cooling Water and Component Cooling Water systems as described in your letter dated June 28,
- 1994, we have decided to grant your request fo} a reduced scope inspection.
NRC Inspection Procedure 40501 (IP 40501),
"Licensee Self-Assessments Related to Area-of-Emphasis Inspections,"
provides guidance and details associated with this program.
A portion of our inspection effort will be devoted to the review of the qualifications of the personnel which you have selected to perform your assessment.
We will conduct the initial portion of the inspection at approximately the halfway point of your effort with the final inspection being conducted after your completed report has been issued.
Therefore, we have tentatively scheduled our first week of inspection for March 13, 1995.
We will coordinate with your staff the timing of the final inspection week.
