Mr. J.

H. Goldberg President - Nuclear Division Florida Power and Light Company P.O.

Box 14000 Juno

Beach, Florida 33408-0420

Dear Mr. Goldberg:

March 23,j 1993 g1 Enclosed for your information and use is a copy of the initial "black and white" version of the joint NRC/Industry Team's report on the effect of Hurricane Andrew on the Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Station.

The review was conducted under the joint sponsorship of the NRC and

INPO, and it was undertaken with the view that documentation of the hurricane's impact on the Turkey Point facility would be potentially beneficial to the Florida Power and Light Company, licensees of other nuclear facilities that are subject to hurricanes, and the NRC.

The report compiles the information gained from the team's review and includes a description of the damage to the physical plant and the actions taken by your organization for plant safety and emergency response.

The results of the review will be a topic at the upcoming Regulatory Information Conference and INPO has agreed to make a distribution within the nuclear industry of the final "color" version of the team's report as soon as it is aVailable.

Additionally, the NRC will distribute the final report to you and to appropriate

Federal, State and international agencies.

I would like to communicate the NRC's appreciation for the cooperation of the Florida Power and Light Company personnel who supported the joint NRC/INPO team during their onsite review.

Sincerely, i~i/~

James G. Partlow Associate Director for Projects
