Dear Senator Chiles:
I am deeply troubled by the situation at the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant in s. Florida.
The leakage of over 500 pounds of boric acid around the head of a reactor vessel which has corroded the rim and some of the sealing bolts in Unit 4 could possibly lead to a meltdown.
What is even more troubling is that F P
& L has refused to test the welds inside this reactor vessel.
I understand that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is studying the situation but that does not satisfy me.
I urge you to use your office to ascertain the truth of what is happening at Turkey Point and to make sure that all safety steps are being taken to prevent a potential disaster.
Thank you.
