Dear Messrs. Morley and Leep:
As required in Part I.A.1.d. of the Cook Nuclear Plant National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit No. MI0005827, we are requesting approval to increase the discharge concentration of a water treatment additive.
Monoethanolamine (ETA) is used during to control corrosion in the Steam Generators.
However, we are unable to achieve the necessary pH levels for wet layup conditions with the current ETA system concentration limitof 50 ppm. Our calculations indicate that by raising the concentration limitto 100 ppm, Steam Generator pH can be maintained at greater than 9.8, which is the best range for corrosion control for this system.
The Steam Generator drain frequencies and volumes included in previous groundwater and surface water discharge applications willremain the same.
