Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 1 WITHDRAW TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION CHANGE REQUEST HYBRID EXPANSION JOINT TUBE In our submittal AEP:NRC:1129M, dated December 20,
- 1996, we submitted a request to change our unit 1 technical specifications (T/Ss) to redefine the pressure boundary for steam generator tubes with installed Westinghouse hybrid expansion joint (HEJ) sleeves.
Due to circumstances outlined below, we have determined it is no longer desirable to pursue approval of this request.
Therefore, we withdraw the subject T/S amendment request.
The HEJ T/S change was anticipated to allow a significant number of steam generator tubes to remain in service.
- However, actual conditions found during our unit 1 1997 spring outage revealed that the proposed T/S change would only affeet a minimal amount of tubes.
Additionally, final steam generator eddy current inspection results from this outage prompted a decision to replace our unit 1 steam generators.
This decision, coupled with sleeving degradation projections up until the time of replacement, has served to alleviate the need for the T/S changes proposed in our submittal AEP:NRC:1129M.
