OF OCTOBER 9, 1997, MEETING ON ANALYSISOF RECIRCULATION SUMP INVENTORY Ir Ill c

On October 9, 1997, NRC staff members met in Rockville, Maryland, with representatives of American Electric Power (AEP). The purpose of the meeting was for AEP to discuss their analysis of recirculation sump inventory to address Item 1 from the September 19, 1997, confirmatory action letter and the October 8, 1997, technical specification (TS) amendment request to revise the minimum quantity of ice in the containment ice condenser.

A list of the meeting participants is attached.

The licensee opened the meeting with a brief review of the discussion from the September 23, 1997, meeting on the same subject.

The discussion then focused on the TS amendment submittal.

Topics included:

conservatisms in the analysis, assumption of no operator action, allowances for sublimation and measurement error, potential increase in sampling frequency, and assumed initial humidity. The use of the material access authorization program (MAAP) code was also discussed including the sensitivity analyses and comparison analyses.

The meeting concluded with the licensee's commitment to provide the MAAP code input listing and a nonproprietary version of Attachment 5 of the TS amendment submittal.
