Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

This letter supplements our November 4, 1983 response to the July 8,

1983 Generic Letter 83-28.

(Required actions'ased on generic implications of the Anticipated Transient Without Scram

[ATWS] incident at Salem.)

With reference to Mr. Darrel Eisenhut s Generic Letter 83-32 of December 2,

1983 on the NRC'Staff position on'Operator Actions for Reactor Trip and ATWS, we have decided to initiate a design change:

we will add an annunciator which will positively inform the operator when an automatic reactor trip is initiated.

We anticipate this change will be installed during the next refueling outage on Unit 2 and the second refueling outage on Unit 1 following this, submittal.

Attachment I & II to this letter contain responses to those paragraphs of the Generic Letter 83-28 which we were not able to respond to by November 4, 1983.

Paragraph 1.1, the Post Trip Review Procedure is contained in Attachment I.

The remaining paragraph(s)/sub-paragraph(s),

which correspond to the Generic Letter, 2.2.1 sub-paragraph 1 through 6, and 3.2. sub-paragraph'1 and 2 are contained in Attachment II.

Attachment IIIcontains a complete explanation of our VENDOR DOCUMENT CONTROL SYSTEM (VDCS) and provides an implementation schedule as committed to in Attachment 5 of our November 4, 1983 submittal.

Attachment IV contains amended pages 7, 23, and 24 of our November 4,

1983 submittal.
