UNIT 2 UPRATE SUBMITTAL NOTIFICATION A calculation was performed as part, of the 1996 unit 2 uprating program to demonstrate Cook Nuclear Plant is capable of cooling to 200' in thirty-six hours with one train of residual heat removal (RHR) and component cooling water (CCW).
An error in the RHR and CCW flowrates was discovered in this calculation during the course of answering questions from the NRC architect engineer design inspection team.
At our request, Westinghouse performed a review of inputs to the calculation, and has determined that our TEMA-E CCW heat exchangers were inappropriately modeled as counter-flow in both the RHR cooldown and containment analyses.
A revised RHR cooldown analysis is being performed.
In addition, as part of our corrective action, an evaluation is being performed to demonstrate that the acceptance criteria for the containment integrity analysis performed as part of the uprating program remain valid.
The NRC staff will be notified in a timely fashion should the revised cooldown analysis or containment evaluation yield unfavorable results.
