GENERIC LETTER (GL) 96-05 PERIODIC VERIFICATION OF DESIGN BASIS CAPABILITY OF SAFETY RELATED MOTOR OPERATED VALVES The purpose of this letter is to comply with the 60 day response requested in GL 96-05.
We have read and plan to meet the intent of GL 96-05.
We are a
member of the Westinghouse Owners
- Group, which has established a task force to develop a generic program for GL 96-05.
We will be submitting a summary description of our motor operated valve periodic verification program by March 17, 1997.
Our present schedule for completing implementation of periodic verification of design basis capability of GL 89-10, motor operated valves, is as follows.
Determine the type of diagnostic testing necessary to provide data for periodic verification of GL 89-10 actuator/valve design basis capability by December 1,
1996.
Identify the applicability of the testing to each GL 89-10 actuator/valve based on probabilistic risk assessment
- ranking, actuator thrust
- margin, and system conditions by January 15, 1997.
Develop procedures/work activities as necessary to integrate periodic verification of design basis capability into Cook Nuclear Plant programs by March 17, 1997.
