'UBJECT:
ANNOUNCEMENT OF SAFETY SYSTEM FUNCTIONAL INSPECTION
Dear Mr. Fitzpatrick:
This is to inform you that the NRC will perform a safety system functional inspection (SSFI) at the Donald C.
Cook Nuclear Generating Plant.
We have chosen the centrifugal charging system portion of the emergency core cooling systems (ECCSs) as the primary focus and residual heat removal system as a
secondary focus for this SSFI.
The inspection will be performed according to NRC Inspection Procedure
- 93801, "Safety System Functional Inspection."
The inspection's onsite activities are scheduled for the weeks of November 12-14 (pre-inspection),
November 18-22, and December 2-6, 1996.
The inspection will assess
- design, operation, maintenance, surveillance, quality assurance, and corrective actions associated with the ECCSs.
To accomplish these objectives, the SSFI team will review a broad range of information and system activities.
In order to more effectively perform this task, the SSFI team would like to have any preliminary information (enclosed list) made available during the week of November 12, 1996.
Following the entrance on November 18,
- 1996, the team would appreciate a short systems overview presentation followed by a general plant tour of the control room, centrifugal charging
- system, safety injection system, residual heat removal
- system, and the emergency diesel generators.
