Dear Dr. Murley:
This letter is submitted as a supplement to letters AEP:NRC:1112B and AEP:NRC:1112 certifying that a Fitness for Duty Program has been implemented at the Donald C.
Cook Nuclear Plant.
We are advising you that Cook Nuclear Plant will discontinue testing for the presence of benzodiazepines and barbiturates effective November 30, 1993.
AEP:NRC:1112 indicated that, in addition to performing testing required by 10 CFR 26, we would also voluntarily test for barbiturates and benzodiazopenes.
A review of test data, both at Cook Nuclear Plant and in the nuclear
- industry, indicates the positive test rate for these substances is extremely low.
Based on this data, additional testing specifically for these substances is not justified.
Alldrug and alcohol specimens processed through testing facilities utilized by Cook Nuclear Plant will continue to be tested in accordance with 10 CFR Part 26 requirements except that the more stringent cut-off level of 50 ng/ml will continue to be used when testing for the presence of marijuana metabolites.
