Dear Dr. Murley:
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that we have successfully completed the random internal inspection of the water supply system of the fire protection system piping.
We committed to this inspection in our AEP:NRC:0692CH letter dated May 15, 1992.
In this May 15, 1992, letter we requested, and you granted, a
suspension of fire protection water flow testing in order to preclude zebra mussel infestation.
The purpose of the suspension was to isolate that portion of the fire protection system piping that would be used by the new water supply system being constructed, thereby precluding zebra mussel intrusion ifpossible.
The isolation point was downstream of the (old) fire protection system
- pumps, which were sub)ected to continued surveillance
- testing, and which did in fact become contaminated.
We believe our recent inspection results, which revealed no zebra mussel contamination in the isolated fire protection system piping, indicates the success of our combined efforts.
We believe any
- shells, or remaining pieces thereof, if they existed, would have been flushed out of the isolated piping with clean water after the new water supply system was installed and operationally tested.
Sincerely, EF Vice President 4LOOr-O 9310210186 931012 PDR ADDCK 05000315 8
