Docket Nos.

E. Fitzpatrick, Vice President Indiana Michigan Power Company c/o American Electric Power Service Corporation 1 Riverside Plaza

Dear Hr. Fitzpatrick:
July 30, l993
SUBJECT:
CORRECTION TO EXEMPTION FROM RE(UIREHENT OF 10 CFR PART 50,'PPENDIX J, III.D.2(b)(ii) FOR THE DONALD C.
COOK NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1
AND 2 (TAC NOS.
H85271 AND M85272)
On July 16, 1993, the Commission issued an Exemption from a requirement in Appendix J, III.D.2(b)(ii) of 10 CFR Part 50 for Donald C.
Cook Nuclear Plant, Units 1
and 2.
The Exemption was granted in response to your letter dated December 21, 1992.
That Exemption contained two typographical errors:
(1)Section III, page 2, paragraph 2
incorrectly stated Pa
= 47.0 instead of the correct value Pa
= 12.0; and (2)
Section III, page 3, paragraph 2, line 3 inadvertently cited the wrong NRC regulation.
We are reissuing the Exemption in its entirety to correct these errors and provide document completeness.
The enclosed Exemption replaces the exemption issued on July 16,
full pressure air lock leakage test whenever air locks are opened during periods when containment integrity is not required by the Technical Specifications.
The basis for this action is included in the enclosed Exemption.
We find that granting the Exemption is authorized by law, will not present an undue risk to the public health and, safety, is consistent with the common defense and security, and meets the special circumstances described in 10 CFR 50. 12(a) (2)(ii )
and (ii i ).
A copy of the exemption is being forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
Sincerely, ORIGINAL SIGNED BX James R. Hall, Acting Director Project Directorate III-1 Division of Reactor Projects - III/IV/V Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
