Dear Mr. Davis:
This letter is in response to your letter dated March 19,
- 1993, which forwarded a request for response.
The request resulted from an inspection conducted by Messrs.
A. Dunlop, G. Replogle, W. Pegg, and D. Roth on February 23 through March 5, 1993.
The request for response is associated with two unresolved issues that concern:
1)
Use of pump curves for IST without relief from ASME Section XI Code requirements, and 2)
Exclusion of the closed safety function for several safety in)ection and component cooling water check valves from the IST program.'ur reply to the request for response is provided in the attachment to this letter.
This letter is submitted pursuant to 10 CFR 50.54(f) and, as such, an oath statement is attached.

Unresolved te 50-315 316-3008-0 DRS The Cook Nuclear Plant IST procedures for the centrifugal charging pumps used reference curves to define acceptance criteria for flow and differential pressure.
The use of pump reference curves may not be equivalent to the ASME Section XI Code requirement.
Resolve whether to perform pump testing in accordance with Code requirement or submit a
code relief request to allow use of reference curves.
es onse Testing of the centrifugal charging pumps at a fixed flow point will be performed in accordance with Section XI requirements.
Test procedures have been revised to eliminate the pump curves.
Testing at a fixed flow point has commenced as of 04/01/93.

Unresolved Item 50-315 316-93008-Ola DRS Resolve exclusion of the closed safety function for several safety in)ection (SI) and Component Cooling Water (CCW) check valves from IST program.
~Res esse The closed safety function of check valves SI-110N, SI-llOSR CCW-224 1 thru 4, and CCW-225 1 thru 4 will be included with revision 4 of the IST program.
Revision 4 of the IST program is due for submittal at the end of May 1993.
