Dear Hr. Fitzpatrick:

SUBJECT:

RESPONSE

TO NRC BULLETIN 92-01, SUPPLEMENT 1, "FAILURE OF THERMO-LAG 330 FIRE BARRIER SYSTEM" (TAC NOS.

H83863 AND M83864)

By letter dated October 5,

1992, you provided a response to NRC Bulletin 92-01 for Donald C.

Cook Nuclear Plant Units 1 and 2.

Your response stated that compensatory measures have been implemented consistent with the plant Technical Specifications for inoperable fire barriers, even though the fire barriers have not been declared inoperable.

You also provided a description of the long term corrective action to insure or restore operability, which is predicated on the results of an ongoing effort sponsored by the Nuclear Management and Resources Council (NUMARC).

We have reviewed your response and find it acceptable.

Please inform us when all corrective actions have been completed.

Further NRC review, if any, will be performed by inspection or audit.

Sincerely, CC:
