Dear Dr. Murley:
In our letter AEP:NRC:1159 dated September 4,
- 1991, we requested your staff's review of a
proposed Combustion Engineering modification to the Foxboro reactor protection instrumentation at Cook Nuclear Plant Units 1 and 2.
The purpose of this letter is to withdraw our request for your staff's review of the proposed modification.
American Electric Power Service Corporation has elected not to continue with Combustion Engineering as the vendor on this project at this time.
We have not yet selected an alternate vendor to replace the existing analog equipment with digital instrumentation and are therefore unable to provide you with a replacement schedule at this time.
We will continue to monitor the reactor protection system and the existing analog modules through our nuclear plant maintenance program.
We have identified certain spare parts requirements via the maintenance program and are in the process of identifying a vendor to supply these spare parts.
We will adjust our monitoring and maintenance as necessary to ensure a safe and reliable reactor protection system.
This document has been prepared following Corporate procedures that incorporate a reasonable set of controls to ensure its accuracy and completeness prior to signature by the undersigned.
