Dear Dr. Murley:
The purpose of this letter is to advise you that the Fire Seal Evaluation Study that we committed to perform by August 1, 1991 is complete.
This commitment was made during the 1990 Appendix R audit conducted at Cook Nuclear Plant and is documented in NRC Inspection Report 90-18.
We have previously advised Messrs.
Ron Gardner and Frank Jablonski of Region III that the study has been completed.
The study contains the fire protection engineering evaluation of 113 fire seals.
The results show that none of the inspected fire seal designs are unacceptable and no seals require new fire test:s to demonstrate the ability to wit:hstand postulated fires at the Donald C.
Cook Nuclear Plant.
Consequently, the sample size was not expanded.
This document has been prepared using Corporate procedures that incorporate a reasonable set of controls to ensure its accuracy and completeness prior to signature by the undersigned.
