Dear Dr. Murley:
Our -response to NRC Bulletin 89-01 (Failure of Westinghouse Steam Generator Tube Mechanical Plugs),
(Ref.
AEP:NRC:1096, dated June 20, 1989) committed to repairing or replacing 269 Westinghouse mechanical plugs from Heat No. 4523 installed in the hot legs of the Unit 1 steam generators at the next refueling outage.
This was because of concerns with stress corrosion cracking ass'ociated with plugs manufactured from this heat of material.
On May 21,
- 1991, we were verbally requested to provide the NRC with the status of this commitment.
The'269 hot leg plugs from Heat No. 4523 were removed and replaced with new Westinghouse mechanical plugs made with thermally treated Inconel 690.
This occurred during the Unit 1 Cycle 11-12 refueling outage which occurred between October 20, 1990 and January 26, 1991.
Consistent with our original response to'NRC Bulletin 89-01, this information is submitted under oath according to the provisions of Section 182a of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as
- amended, and 10 CFR 50.54(f).
As such, an oath is included with this. letter.
