The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission recently received an allegation concerning remodeling'ctivities at your D. C.
Cook facility.
We have conclud'ed that the information does not fall within the regulatory guidelines or indicate that a potential safety concern exists.
We are providing the following details of this allegation to you for'our information.
C The NRC received some quality concerns related to firesafe building materials used in the recently remodeled lower level of the "old" administrative office building.
That section of the building complex currently houses miscellaneous maintenance department off'ices and electrical'/maintenance shops.
The specific concerns were as follows:
the lumber and=paneling used were not treated with a fire retardant, the insulation used does not conform to fire code in that the backing is flammable, and that at least one cable tray surrounded by these materials contains a fiber-optic cable running to the control room.
The alleger stated that the same construction practices would never be allowed in a commercial building in the nearby town of St; Joseph.'o response is required;
- however, should you determine that the allegat'ion is substantiated and has safety significan'ce, please notify the Region of this information.
We request that any response contain no personal
- privacy, proprietary, or safeguards information so it can be released to the public and placed in the NRC Pub]ic Document Room.
If necessary, such information shall be contained in a separate attachment which will be withheld from public disclosure.
The affidavit required by 10 CFR 2.790(b) must accompany your response if proprietary information is included.
