DPR-58 STEAM GENERATOR TUBE PLUGGING REPORT U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn:

Document Control Desk Washington, D.C.

20555 Attn:

A. B. Davis December 14, 1990

Dear Mr. Davis:

Pursuant to the requirements of Donald C.

Cook Nuclear Power Plant"'Technical Specification 4.4.5.5(a), this letter is to inform you of the number of steam generator tubes plugged as a result of eddy current examination activities performed during the 1990 Unit 1 Refueling Outage.

Inspection of Unit 1 steam generators began on November 16,

1990, was completed on December 1,
1990, and included 100 percent of all previously nonplugged tubes.

The total number of tubes examined in each steam generator included 3,208 in SG-11, 3,240 in SG-12, 3,246 in SG-13, and 3,221 in SG-14

'onservative steam generator tube plugging criteria, similar to that utilized during the inspection of April-May 1989, were implemented as follows:

In the hot leg tubesheet crevice and tubesheet surface regions (up to approximately 6

inches) all clean indications or other signals representing possible tube wall degradation, regardless of voltage or phase

angle, were plugged.

At hot leg support plate intersections clear indications meeting a threshold voltage of 1.75 volts and having indicated through wall penetrations of a 40 percent were considered pluggable.

1 Steam Generator Tube Plugging Report December 14, 1990 Page 2 of 2 Applying the conservative evaluation criteria resulted in plugging a total of 170 tubes.

The number of tubes plugged per steam generator were 64 tubes in SG-11, 18 tubes in SG-12, 57 tubes in SG-13, and 31 tubes in SG-14.

Of the total number of tubes plugged 19 were plugged based on Technical Specification requirements (z 40 percent tube wall degradation) and included 5 tubes in SG-11, 8 tubes in SG-12, 5 tubes in SG-13, and 1 tube in SG-14.

Respectfully,

~
