Document Control Desk Washington, D.C.
20555 Attn:
T. E. Murley October 16, 1989
Dear Dr. Murley:
The following information is provided in response to the NRC Safety Evaluation Report on "D. C.
Cook Conformance to Reg.
Guide 1.97",
dated September 11, 1989.
Although the level instrumentation presently installed is not environmentally or seismically qualified and the electrical cables associated with the instruments do not meet the separation criteria as stated in Reg.
Guide 1.97 for Category 1
variables, we will provide each of the four steam generator wide-range level instruments (one per steam generator) with a diverse Class 1E power source, At present, one Class 1E power source feeds all four steam generator level instruments.
This change was reviewed with the NRC staff during a teleconference among Messrs.
J.
G.
Giitter, B. Marcus and A. C.
Udy on September 25, 1989.
We estimate completion of this repowering by December 31, 1989 for both Units 1
and 2.
This document has been prepared following Corporate procedures that incorporate a reasonable set of controls to ensure its accuracy and completeness prior to signature by the undersigned.
Sincerely, M. P. Alexich Vice President onL a)p 89i025017i 89iOih PDR ADOCK 050003i5 e
