Dear Mr. Denton:
This submittal is made pursuant to 10 CFR Section 50.55a(g)(4)(iv) and requests approval to use the provisions of ASME Code Section XI, 1983 Edition with Summer 1983 Addenda for the ISI/IST program for the Donald C.
Cook Nuclear Plant.
Indiana 6 Michigan Electric Company is presently required to comply with 10 CFR Section 50.55a(g)(4)(ii) and use the 1980 Edition of the ASME Code Section XI with applicable addenda for the second ten-year interval ISI/IST programs.
These programs will be submitted to the NRC in January 1986.
The latest revision to the 10 CFR Section 50.55a, effective October 28, 1985 (50 Federal Register
- 38970, September 26, 1985), has adopted the 1983 ASME Code Section XI with Summer 1983 Addenda.
We are proceeding on the basis of utilizing the 1983 Edition of the ASME Code Section XI with Summer 1983 Addenda for the second ten-year interval ISI/IST program and request your approval to use this later edition of the ASME Code.
The two editions of Section XI (the 1980 Edition with Winter 1981
- Addenda, and the 1983 Edition with Summer 1983 Addenda) are almost identical.
The changes are primarily editorial or are clarifications of the intentions of the code committee.
We desire to use the later edition for ease and clarity, and because the later edition is technically better, providing a number of improvements in examinations.
We also wish to use the latest Commission-approved edition because the State of Michigan prefers to use later editions of the code whenever possible.
A check in the amount of $150.00 is attached with this letter for the NRC processing of the aforementioned request.
