SUBJECT:

VACUUM CONDITION RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO CVCS HOLDUP TANKS Mr. James G. Keppler, Director Office of Inspection and Enforcement Region III U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This letter corrects a typographical error made in transcribing data to Table I in the attachment to our response to IE Bulletin 80-05 which was sent to you on June 13, 1980.

The existing protective measure for the Waste Disposal System Spent Resin Storage Tank should have been listed as Type "A", not "B",in the Table, since this tank is not vented to the atmosphere but is capable of withstanding full vacuum conditions.

Consequently, an amended Table I, including this correction, is attached to this letter for replacement in the original response.

Very tr ly yours, PM/emc ttachment

EXISTING PROTECTIVE MEASURES A - Tanks capable of withstanding full'acuum.conditions.

If B - Tanks vented to atmosphere.

C - Tanks capable of withstanding only partial vacuum conditions.

D - Tanks have a normal gas supply from the Gaseous Waste Disposal System Vent Header, an alternate cove~ gas supply from the Reactor Gas Systems-Nitrogen Supply Manifold, a low pressure

alarm, and an interlock to trip the CVCS holdup tanks recirculation pump on extreme low tank vent head pressure.

E - Tank (located outside) has adequate protection from freezing the fluid

. contained within the tank.
