DONALDC. COOK NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 1 - USE OF ASME CODE, SECTION IX, CODE CASES 2142-1 AND 2143-1 (TAC NO. MA2439)
Dear Mr. Powers:
i By letter dated April 3, 1998, Indiana Michigan Power Company requested approval under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3) to use American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Code),Section IX, Code Cases 2142-1 and 2143-1 for the fabrication and installation of Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant, Unit 1, replacement steam generator lower assemblies.
The NRC staff has reviewed the request and supporting information and concludes that the use of the subject Code Cases as an alternative to the ASME Code,Section IX, requirements will provide an acceptable level of quality and safety and is authorized pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(i).
The staff's Safety Evaluation is enclosed.
