E. Murley October 28, 1987
Dear Dr. Murley:
In Attachment 2 to our letter AEP:NRC:0838Z dated June 15,
- 1987, we provided the D.
C.
Cook Plant-specific Anticipated Transients Without Scram (ATWS) Mitigation System Actuation Circuitry (AMSAC) design.
At that time, however, we had not yet received the Westinghouse design for the variable timer used to initiate AMSAC.
Therefore,, Figure 2, page 4 simply showed the timer in place.
We have been informed that Westinghouse provided to Mr. James Lyons, Chief Technical
& Operations Support Branch,
- NRC, a proprietary and a non-proprietary version of the variable timer design.
This was transmitted by Westinghouse cover letter OG-87-35 dated August 3,
- 1987, a copy of which is attached for your convenience.
The purpose of this letter is to advise you that the Westinghouse variable timer design will be utilized in our D.
C.
Cook Nuclear Plant specific design.
We plan to use the Foxboro Spec 200 Micro Control Card, N2CCA-S, to perform the lag function on the turbine impulse chamber pressure signals from MPC253 and MPC254, to auctioneer high the two lagged signals, and to perform the timer function.
An input contact to the card will be provided from the 3/4 low feed water relay logic.
After we have received a low feed water flow signal and we have successfully completed the timing
- period, the N2CCA-S will provide an output to the initiate-relays via one of the relay output isolators.
