Dear Mr. Denton:
The purpose of this letter is to docket the status of testing performed on the Unit 1 control room ionization smoke detectors.
Testing was required by Unit 1 License Condition 2.c(4)
(Amendment 31 to License DPR-58), which states that we must complete all the modifications listed in Table 1 of the June 4, 1979 Fire Protection Safety Evaluation (SE).
Item 23 of Table 1 required us to conduct a control room detector test for Unit 1.
Our letter AEP:NRC:0670 dated April 7, 1982 to you discussed tests that were performed in response to Item 23 of Table 1 to the SE.
The tests failed.
As a result, we decided to install additional detectors in the control room.
The additional detectors were installed, and another test in the Unit 1 control room was completed on September 15, 1983.
The detectors passed the test, as was confirmed by our. two consultants (Professional Loss Control and Pyrotronics).
We therefore believe that Item 23 of Table 1 of the SE has been satisfied.
- Thus, we believe this part of Unit 1 License Condition 2.c(4) has been fulfi1led.
This document has been prepared following Corporate procedures which incorporate a reasonable set of controls to insure its'accuracy and completeness prior to signature by the undersigned.
