DPR-58 and DPR-74 SMALL-BREAK LOCA ANALYSIS PROGRAM-TMI ACTION ITEMS II.K.3.30 AND II.K.3.31 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.
20555-
Dear Mr. Denton:
This is in response to Mr. Varga's letter dated May 24, 1985 regarding the new Westinghouse small-break LOCA model, NOTRUMP, used in satisfying TMI Action Items II.K.3.30 and II.K.3.31.
As was correctly noted in that letter, American Electric Power Service Corporation is a member of the Westinghouse Owners Group.
- Further, we plan to use the NOTRUMP results in the small-break LOCA analysis for the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant.
Westinghouse has advised us that the NOTRUMP analysis will be performed for plants similar to Donald C. Cook Units 1 and 2, but assumed to be fueled entirely with Westinghouse fuel.
They are currently planning to submit that, analysis to you by approximately May 1986.
Since both units of the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant contain fuel supplied by both Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Exxon Nuclear
- Company, we cannot make a determination at this time as to whether the analysis will bound the fuel supplied by both vendors.
When the analysis report is available, we will review it to determine whether it bounds or is applicable to the Exxon fuel. If it is found that the Westinghouse analysis is not bounding, then we will discuss with your staff at that time any additional activities that are required in regard to the subject TMI action items.
This document has been prepared following Corporate procedures which incorporate a reasonable set of controls to insure its accuracy and completeness prior to signature by the undersigned.
