Dear Mr. Keppler:

This letter serves to transmit one copy of the Updated guality Assurance Program Description for the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant (gAPD). This document will be contained in the 1985 FSAR update to be submitted in accordance with 10CFR50.71.

On December 27, 1984 and January 3, 1985 Mr. R. Sutphin of your staff, in telephone conversation with Mr. R. F. Kroeger of our staff, provided extensive comments on our previous gAPD submittals dated October 3, 1983 and October 16, 1984.

Mr. R. L. Spessard's January 9, 1985 letter stated that, based on the aforementioned conversations, your staff concluded that our September 1983, and July 1984 revisions satisfy the requirements of 10CFR50, Appendix B and are acceptable.

During the aforementioned discussions, Mr. Kroeger agreed to address your staff's concerns in the 1985 update of our gAPD. Therefore the attached document is being independently submitted for review by your staff.

The July 1985 gAPD update does not contain any changes to our existing gA Program nor do the revisions therein constitute a reduction in any previous gA Program commitments. ttith the exception of one item, each revision is an enhancement of the description of our existing gA Program in order to address your staff's concerns. The one revision that is not a direct result of your staff's comments is the addition of item 12C, Appendix B, page 1.7.B-116, which clarifies the requirements to which the Cook Plant Master File Room must comply.

'Mr. Keppler AEP:NRC:0847G Page 2 of 2 Attachment A to this letter identifies those sections of the gAPD that have been revised in the 1985 update. In addition, these revisions have been further identified by right hand margin bar s in the gAPD.

This document has been prepared following Corporate procedures which incorporate a reasonable set of controls to insure its accuracy and completeness prior to signature by the undersigned.
