Dear Mr. Denton:
This letter provides a revision to AEP:NRC:0537B (submitted October 9, 1981) to remove reference to Buchanan Hydro unit.
AEP and Indiana s Michigan Electric Company (IsMECo.) are planning to upgrade and modify the Buchanan and Berrien Springs Hydro-Electric Generating Stations.
In completing the proposed modifications, we are contemplating the following:
- 1) removing both hydro units from service for a time to complete modifications and
- 2) returning the units to service with modifications in place that could affect the test referenced in 0537B.
There are five other possible sources of AC power which can be aligned to restore AC power to D. C.
Cook under loss of the AC grid. It should be noted that each of the five alternative sources of AC power provide more capability for supplying the D. C. Cook auxiliary AC power than the Buchanan and Berrien Springs hydro units.
These alternative sources are listed below:

Commonwealth Edison Company East Frankfort Northern Indiana Public Service Company - Babcock Northern Indiana Public Service Company - Michigan City Consumers Power Company - Palisades Consumers Power Company Ludington Pumped Storage Procedures providing the detailed switching instructions required to align each of the above sources with the D. C. Cook Plant have been generated.
