SUBJECT:

CLOSEOUT OF TACS 43523 AND 43524:

EQUIPMENT SURVIVABILITY-HYDROGEN BURN On February 6, 1985, the Indiana and Michigan Electric Company met with the NRC staff to discuss the Hydrogen Control issue for the Donald C.

Cook Nuclear Station.

IMEC had been using the Westinghouse Offshore Power Systems Corporation for contractual support for all of the earlier efforts on Cook.

WOPS is now out of business and Cook has contracted with Bettelle Columbus to almost completely redo the hydrogen control analyses and equipment qualifications as may be needed.

I had opened new TACs on Cook some time ago for "Hydrogen Control Final Resolution" and it is recommended that all new work by all reviewers be reported against the new TACs (49520 and 49521).

We will soon issue an SER on "Structural Analysis of the Containment Ultimate Strength" and close out TACs 43072 and 43073.

I will also close out TACs 43523 and 43524 on "Equipment Survivability Hydrogen Burn".

This will close all old TACs on the issue and allow all nevi work to be reported against the new TACs on Final Resolution.

I will transfer the reviewers to the new TACs; i.e.

Parczewski and Garg.

This will make scheduling and manpower accounting less burdensome.
