Dear Hr. Denton:
An application for amendment to the Donald C.
Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 2 Technical Specifigation which would permit a higher limit for Enthalpy Rise Hot Channel Factor, F, was submitted in letter AEP:NRC:0860J dated August 28, 1984.
During the course of the review of the submittal, the NRC staff asked us to consider a range of axial power distribution shapes that are expected over the life of the core.
As indicated in our letter AEP:NRC:0860V dated December 7,
- 1980, we imposed a new administrative K(Z) curve to assure margin to 10 CFR 50.46 limits.
This administrative K(Z) curve was based on preliminary calculations performed by Exxon Nuclear Company (ENC).
On January 22,
- 1985, ENC recommended additional restrictions on Cycle 5
operation based on analyses performed up to that time The recommendation restricted the maximum allowed Axial Flux Difference (AI) at full power to below -2.5$ up to a Cycle 5 exposure of 9000 MlD/HTU (expected to be reached by March 25, 1985).
This recommendation was imposed as an administrative limit onhI to maintain the bI below -2.5$ until further analyses are performed.
Me plan to discuss this with the NRC staff at our upcoming February 7, 1985 meeting along with the analyses ENC has performed and LOCA model changes ENC is planning to implement.
