FROM:

Steven A. Varga, Chief Operating Reactors Branch ¹1 Division of Licensing MEMORANDUM FOR:

Olan Parr, Chief Auxiliary Systems Branch Division of Systems Integration Distribution LPDR Memo file KJohnston DWigginton NRC PDR ORB¹1 RDG CParrish EReeves SVarga

SUBJECT:

PRIORITY OF SAFETY EVALUATIONS FOR D.

C.

COOK AND FARLEY By letter dated December 18, 1984, Division of Licensing management requested, as an NRR demonstration to show that the backlog of multi-plant, TMI, and plant specific actions could be completed in a timely manner, that six plants, including D.

C.

Cook and Farley, be chosen to complete 75% of their actions, open prior to July 1, 1984, by July 1, 1985.

To achieve this goal, it was requested that reviews for these plants be given priority over similar reviews for other operating reactors unless there were overriding safety issues.

Enclosed in the memo were the lists of open items for each plant and their completion schedule.

It was requested that the division evaluate the dates for actions under their cognizance and advise us as soon as possible of any schedular impacts or problems that they might have.

At this time we have received few responses to this request.

It is necessary that we receive your response so that we can establish schedules that reflect our mutual goals.

Enclosed are the lists of remaining open items for review by your branch for Farley and D.

C.

Cook.

Included on each list is the "SE Input Date" which is the date DL requires your staff's input in order to meet the goal of completing 75% of the open items.

In addition, where requests for additional information (RAI) have been received or are forthcoming from the review

branch, a date is listed in the "RAI Date" column.

If there is a targeted licensee response date it is listed in the "RAI Response Date" column.

Where no dates are shown in these

columns, we are not aware of any forthcoming RAI's or response targets.

Please include in your review, where appropriate, projected dates for RAI's and needed licensee response dates to meet the projected "SER Input Date."

Some of these dates have been negotiated by the PM's, others have not.

Please respond on the enclosed listing and return a copy as soon as possible so that we may adjust schedules as necessary.

Your contacts for Farley and D.

C.

Cook are Ed Reeves (X27386) and Dave Wigginton (X27354) respectively.
