Dear Mr. Denton:
This letter is in reference to the modifications being performed at the Donald C.
Cook Nuclear Plant relative to the requirements of Appendix R of 10 CFR 50.
The Donald C.
Cook Nuclear Plant is nearing the completion of the Appendix R work which is required to be finished 6 months after the SER was issued.
AEPSC letter serial AEP:NRC:0692( dated June 8, 1984 reported to the NRC material de-livery problems which will cause the completion of several Appendix R design changes to be delayed beyond June 20, 1984.
There are some additional items which should be brought to your attention:
The installation of the fire doors to the Unit iII1 and Unit 82 charging pump rooms, the installation of fire seals and stops, and the instal-lation of cable and conduit cable tray.fire wraps (where material is available) are scheduled to complete June 20, 1984.
The review of the docamentation'nd release'.of'-the..new,i.nstallations'.for unrestricted operat-ion will be completed onor about June 23, 1984.
The operational (final) test of the fire sprinkler system is scheduled to start June 20, 1984.
The review of the documentation and re1ease of the new system for unrestricted operation will be completed on or about June 25, ]984.
The production work and the testing for two other projects have been completed and the review of the associated documentation is in progress.
The projects are (1) the installation of additional fire detectors (pyro-alarms) and (2) the installation of fire dampers in the East RHR Pump Room, the West RHR Pump
- Room, and the West Centrifugal Charging Pump Room.
Release of the new installations for unrestricted operation will be com-pleted on or about June 25, 1984 and June 23, 1984, respectively.
All other Appendix R work due no later than June 20, 1984 has been completed.
