ATTACHMENT TO 'AEP:NRC:0655 IE Inspection Reports No.

50-315/18-28 and No.,

50-316/81-32 cited a violation consisting of the omission of the N-Train Battery from the N-List.

When the AEPSC Manager of QA became aware of the violation, he issued two memos.

The first memo dated December 3, 198l requested the Electrical Engineering Division to provide the necessary documentation to add the N-Train Battery to the N-List.

This will be done by February 1,

1982 and a revised N-List will be published and distributed by March 31, 1982.

The second memo was issued on December 3,

1981 to all Engineering Divisions requesting, (1) a review of the N-List in their functional areas to determine if any safety-xelated items are missing from the list, and (2) that appropriate steps be taken to add any missing items to the list.

In addition, the QA Department Procedure which now controls the N-List shall be made a general AEPSC procedure,

thus, reinforcing the requirement that the updating of the N-List be the responsibility of the cognizant engineers.

This general procedure shall be in effect by March 31$ 1982.

The new general AEPSC Procedure on the N-List will reflect the difficulty of providing a

complete and accurate listing of all safety related items.

The N-List shall be used in conjunction with other sources for determining an item's classification.

These other sources, which include flow

diagrams, previous procurement documents, consultation with engineers from the Nuclear Safety and Licensing Section and consultation with cognizant engineers, shall be used to assist in an N item's determination.

Although every effort shall be made to keep the N-List an up-to-date, accurate document, missing items should not be considered an indication of a breakdown in the QA program; there axe several alternate methods which can assist in the determination of an item's classification.
