-'+ 4'<<~~I i <i 110C This letter responds to Mr. S. A. Varga's letter of October 30, 1981 concerning Containment Purging and Venting during normal plant operations.
Mr. Varga's letter requested that we propose Technical Specification (T/S) which allow containment purging and require periodic testing.
At the present
- time, we are in the process of completing a study to possibly replace the isolation valves of the Cook Plant purge system.
We are investigating the availability of valves that can meet the Appendix J leakage requirements without the use of resilient seats.
The use of this valve should resolve the NRC's concern involving degradation of resilient valve seats in purge valves
Since we are presently studying the replacement of the existing valves, we feel that it is inappropriate to submit T/S changes at this time.
We request an extension to September 1,
1982 for submittal of the re-vised T/S on purge valves.
By this time we feel we will be in a better position to advise the NRC on the status of our valve replacement program as well as submit a T/S which realistically reflects the specific changes made to the system.
