Dear Mr. Keppler:

This letter transmits the information requested in your letter of July 1, 1981 on the status of the public, alerting system required by 10 CFR 50, Appendix E, Section IV.D.3.

Our letter, AEP:NRC:0308H dated. July 1, 1981, contained information on the siren system being installed within the,l0 mile Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) of the Donald C.

Cook Nuclear Plant.

The EPZ is located entirely within Berrien County, Michigan.

Our letter reported that we had experienced some delay in the delivery of the sirens, that we expected to have the in-stallation completed by August 1, 1981 and the system operational by August 7, 1981.

To date all equipment has been received.

After sending you our July 1 letter, we have encountered several minor problems in locating and installing the sirens.

We are currently field-testing individual sirens to ensure that an adequate sound level is achieved for the location selected.

Our current design consists of fourteen sirens.
