Dear Hr. Keppler:

We have been informed by our nondestructive examination (NDE) contractor that they will not be able to complete the NDE required by Item 2 of IE Bulletin 79-17 according to 'the schedule indicated in Item 6 of the same Bulletin.

The inability to meet the Bulletin's schedule is due primarily to the shortage of trained personnel re-quired to perform the NDE and prepare the report.

We therefore re-quest an extension of 90 days beyond the deadlines of Item 6 for both the completion of the inspections and the submittal of the re-port.

This request supercedes the request for an extension made in our submittal AEP:NRC:00255A to Nr. fhrold R. Denton dated September 27, 1979.

Very truly yours, JED:em T. /
