To determine the relative audibility of the plant evacuation announcement (PA) system, a complete survey of all accessible plant areas was taken.
An individual stationed in an area judged to be the highest in noise level was paged over the PA system, to determine if the paging call could be heard above the noise.
Each of the plant's 92 PA stations were thus checked.
In some cases, the PA unit's volume control was at its highest setting, yet the call could not be heard.
In these
- cases, additional PA speakers will be installed.
A number of defective PA's were also detected during this survey.
In especially noisy areas, such as between the Unit 1 and 2
- condensers, excessive PA sound pressure levels would be needed to insure audibility of an evacuation announcement.
In these
- cases, a flashing strobe light visual signal will be installed to supplement the PA announcement.
Because of the relatively few number of PA speakers per area, excessive sound levels from each unit are needed at present.
lilith the number of speakers (and PA units) to be added, a more even distribution of sound will result without excessive levels from individual PA speakers.
gl Based on the findings of the plant survey, these specific corrective actions will be taken to ensure that adequate audible/visual evacuation signals exist in all plant areas.
1.
The existing evacuation alarm system shall be expanded to include:
71 additional PA speakers 17 additional PA stations 26 strobe lights in high noise areas Measures have been initiated. to install the above equipment.
2.
A job order has been issued to repair the PA's that were found to be defective during the survey.
IE Bulletin 79-18, Item 4 under actions to be taken by Licensee, states that for all accessible areas, all corrective actions must be com-pleted within 120 days of issuance of this Bulletin.
Every effort will be made to try to meet the bulletin schedule.
With respect to inaccessible
- areas, we plan to perform the Unit 2 survey during the upcoming refueling outage and the Unit 1 survey during the late Spring 1980 refueling outage.
Necessary modifications, based on the results of the survey and the nature of the inaccessible areas, will be completed during the subsequent refueling outages.
