SEP Topic XV-19, Loss of Coolant Accident R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-244
Dear Mr. Crutchfield:
In the NRC's assessment; of this topic, provided by letter dated September 27, 1981, it was recommended that RGSE remove the NaOH valve delay timer, to prevent inadvertent overriding of the spray additive system in the event of a loss of coolant accident.
During the first Ginna Integrated Assessment meeting of December 1-3,
- 1981, RGGE stated that we planned to lessen the delay to approximately ten seconds, rather than remove the timer.
This would lower the possibility of operator intervention, without unnecessarily perturbing the system.
- Further, RG8E's operator training would direct the operators not to override the NaOH addition, in the event of an SI signal.
NRC stated that this would be an 'acceptable alternative.'
The Ginna Stat'i'on is currently shutdown for modifications and refueling.
RG&E will perform the above-stated work prior to power operation.
Thus, this SEP topic can be considered resolved.
Very truly yours, Jo E. Maier 8203150075 820309 PDR ADOCK 05000244, I, P, ',
