NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-397/97-17
Dear Mr. Parrish:
An NRC inspection was conducted September 28 through November 8, 1997, at your
Washington Nuclear Project-2 reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and
results of that inspection.
During the 6-week period, the conduct of licensed activities at the WNP-2 facilitywas
generally characterized
by safety-concious operations, supported by sound engineering,
effective maintenance,
and well planned and executed radiological controls.
We note over
the past several months your staff has identified performance issues regarding your ability
to demonstrate timely augmentation of the WNP-2 emergency response
organization,
Your
short term actions to improve performance. in this area appear appropriate.
We willmonitor
the long term effectiveness of your actions in future inspection activities.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to discuss
them with you.
