Dear Hr. Parrish:

SUBJECT:

CLOSEOUT OF NRCB 92-01, SUPPLEMENT 1, "FAILURE OF THERMO-LAG 330 FIRE BARRIER SYSTEM" (TAC NO. H83950)

By letter dated September 28,

1992, you provided 'a response to NRC Bulletin 92-01 for WNP-2.

Your response stated that you had identified all areas with 1-or 3-hour Thermo-Lag 330 fire barrier material, and that these ar'eas had been placed on a one-hour fire watch tour.

After extensive discussion with the NRC staff, your letter dated April 13, 1993, provided in response to Generic Letter (GL) 92-08, identified the Thermo-Lag 330 fire barriers as inoperable.

In addition, you described your long-term corrective action program to ensure or restore operability.

This long-term corrective action involves your participation in the NUMARC Thermo-Lag Test Program.

This additional information satisfactorily completes your response to NRCB 92-01, and TAC M83950 is considered closed.

All further review of the Thermo-Lag issue, including implementation of corrective actions, will be conducted under our evaluation of your response to GL 92-08 (TAC H85624).

This review will consider the additional information provided in your June 23, 1993 letter that revised your original response to GL 92-08, including an assessment of the acceptability of the scope and schedule of your proposal for identification of additional Thermo-Lag installations at WNP-2.
