Dear Hr. Parrish:

SUBJECT:

REACTOR VESSEL MATERIAL SURVEILLANCE WITHDRAWAL SCHEDULE CHANGE REQUEST (TAC NO. H85185)

You requested, in a letter dated July 2, 1992, to modify the capsule withdrawal schedule for WNP-2.

Specifically, you requested that the reactor pressure vessel surveillance capsule No.

2 at 120 azimuth be put into

standby, and surveillance capsule No.

3 at 30'e withdrawn at 24 EFPY.

The change was requested because capsule No. 2's basket had fallen off the holder sometime prior to the Hay 27, 1989 in-vessel examination, and shipped to General Electric so a new assembly could be made and reinstalled in the vessel.

The basket and new assembly were reinstalled during the 1991 outage.

During the 1992 outage, the other two specimen holders and the reinstalled specimen holder were observed with no indications or problems.

We have completed our evaluation of this change request, and find the requested change acceptable.

Our acceptance is based on the fact that surveillance capsule No.

2 missed some exposure, and substituting surveillance capsule No.

3 for withdrawal at 24 EFPY is consistent with the requirements of 10 CFR Part 50 Appendix H.

This completes our action on TAC No. M85185.

Sincerely, cc:
